Energy, is the best way to describe the work of photographer, John Robert Rowlands. Through his work he shares the raw energy of rock through images such as The Beatles from 1965, The Rolling Stones through the 1970's to Elvis in the 1970's, and many more.
Currently, Rowlands work has been featured in the exhibit “David Bowie Is” which is on view through August at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK. His photograph titled, “The Archer” shows Bowie on stage in his Station to Station tour, 1976. Starting at the young age of 13, John became fascinated with the legends of music and over the past fifty years has captured millions of images of celebrities, both onstage and off. From his early stints photographing the first three Rolling Stones tours, he last two Beatles tours to the first two Led Zeppelin tours, his images reflect the best days of Rock and Roll. His adventures include 4 ½ years of shooting Elvis, six Rolling Stones tours, three David Bowie tours, many tours with the Beatles, working with and getting to know George Harrison. His body of work includes the icons of rock from the 60s, through the 90s captured for all times on film.
John has taken well over a million photographs during his career and his work has appeared in and on the covers of a roster of world-wide magazines, newspapers and books, such as Time, Newsweek, Billboard. His work has appeared on 105 record album covers, including those of Elvis, Conway Twitty, Kenny Rogers and Little Richard. He has worked with numerous record companies including RCA.
